Flying Nun Women Dunedin 1980s to 1990s oral history project.

We are almost there but still need your help to get this project over the line.

But first up - a huge thank you to those very fine people who have helped us out by donating towards the oral history project
- Flying Nun Women : Dunedin 1980s - 1990s.

For those of you who missed the details – here they are again.
The Flying Nun Foundation (FNF) is delighted to invite you to help with a project that will help NZ and beyond understand how Flying Nun changed the course of music in New Zealand and its influence around the world.

We at the FNF have been working hard on a establishing, what we hope, will be the first steps towards having a far reaching Flying Nun oral history available for everyone.

Who better to tell us how it all happened from the ground up than the very people in the Flying Nun scene.

We know that there is much already written about Flying Nun and the various bands/ individuals but there is something incredibly powerfully compelling hearing first hand a persons voice telling of their own journey in music - creating the very fabric of our music scene in NZ. So, we are very pleased to let you know that the FNF is commissioning a pilot oral history project - Flying Nun Women : Dunedin 1980s - 1990s.

We feel it is important that you know about it as we it kick it off.

This pilot project will involve substantial oral history interviews with 3 women musicians involved in the Dunedin post punk music scene 1980s-1990s, and recorded by the Flying Nun label. The interviews will be recorded primarily for archival purposes.

This project builds on the Dunedin Double EP oral history project, by further exploring women's experience of music making in Dunedin during the early period of the Flying Nun label. Interviewees will also be invited to select and talk about personal objects / memorabilia which they feel relate to their musical lives thus adding another dimension to the project.

This is a $12,000 project which will cover the costs of hiring a professional oral historian, photographer as well as other associated expenses. So far the Foundation has raised $11,000 - this is where you might come in!

We’re hoping we can raise this remainder from within our Flying Nun Foundation/ Flying Nun whanau.

All contributions will be so gratefully received – no matter how small or large!

You can in touch with us at flyingnunfoundaton@gmail.com or call/text Francisca Griffin on 027 483 4707

Please get in touch if this sounds like something you'd like to support.

We look forward to bringing this project to you.
